John and I moved here in November of 2008 from Pittsburgh. We bought an old farm house and will probably spend the rest of our lives fixing it up. Our family consists of John, me, and our two “kids” India and Sherman. Odd names for children you say? Definitely. But fortunately we have good reasons for the names: India is a black lab mix named after India ink (my husband is an illustrator), and Sherman is our African Grey Parrot, named after General Sherman because Sherman, small but mighty, is ALWAYS in charge.
Why did we move here? Well, it’s been asked several times and the best, shortest reason I can give is: TO LIVE THE GOOD LIFE! I could go on for at least 2 or 3 more paragraphs of why we chose to live in Franklin and why we love it so much but instead I’ll keep it brief and to the point. I want to make a difference in this town, be a part of it, so I have these goals: to promote and support local food businesses (restaurants, food makers, food growers) and become an active member of the community. I created this blog as a fun resource for local happenings, restaurants and a way to share our love of all things food related. From favorite recipes and best meals to interviews with local chefs and recommendations on places to go and things to try. Check out my restaurant reviews on www.urbanspoon.com.
Like sharing a good meal with family or friends, I want this blog to be a way to share my passion for and knowledge of all the great culinary finds our area has to offer. On the side bar of the home page you’ll find links to restaurants, my favorite food blogs and local businesses. Click around, have a good time. You can sign up for an email subscription which will notify you of new posts and you can leave your comments or suggestions. Feel free to share recipes (with pictures if possible) by emailing them to me at franklinfoodie@inbox.com and I’ll post them for you. I look forward to hearing from you.
This page has the following sub pages.

This is terrific. I am also a foodie and love cooking and entertaining. I have 100′s of cookbooks which I will just sit and read like a great novel. Will be checking in often and thank you for a bright light in the area.
Thanks Marilyn. Please feel free to let us know what some of your favorite cookbooks are.
Here are just (2) of my very favorite cookbooks. THREE RIVERS RENAISSANCE COOKBOOK iv. Favorite recipes for you to try: Stuffed Tenderloin, this is devine. Other book will be hard to locate is WITH GREAT GUSTO, THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF YOUNGSTOWN, INC. Favorite recipes, Cincinnati Chili and Banana Blueberry Bread, all super. FYI. I know the website is Franklinfoodie.com, but had a terrific lunch today at The Derrick Deli in Oil City. The turkey sandwich was made with honest to goodness real turkey, right off Tom the turkey. It was like having leftovers after the Thanksgiving day feast Thanks for the venue here. Great place to share.
I am going to have to try that recipe, Marilyn. Great to have your input to our new blog. I hear so many positive reports about your gourmet cooking.
I do believe the Three Rivers cookbooks are my very favorite too. I was lucky enough to be given the first two early in my marriage and they are now tattered and stained. They remain my favorite but I look forward to trying out the recipe you have suggested from IV. OK, I’ll be honest. I will be asking my husband to try out the recipe as he does most of our cooking these days.
Marilyn I would love to post this Stuffed Tenderloin recipe. Could you email it to me and I will post it on the Recipes Page. My email address is franklinfoodie@inbox.com. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Lisa,
This blog is awesome! So glad you put your culinary talents out there for all to enjoy.
Amazing Foods Cafe will feature Crab Cakes w/horsey sauce and grilled salmon salads w/cucumber-dill dressing this Friday.
I’m wondering if any of our local restaurants are members of By Fresh By Local… They are currently soliciting local foods businesses interested in becoming 2010 Buy Fresh Buy Local Partners – what a great way to help the local farmers and community. Check them out at http://www.buylocalpa.org.
Great site, I’ll be checking in regularly.
Great idea Kim. I’ll help spread the word. An organization that helps support the community will only make it stronger. I love this interaction!
Lisa,
We had 2 new customers who came to us today because of your blog. Thank’s a million.
Judy

Thank you for creating this blog. It adds much to the Franklin culture. Very enjoyable to peruse, and the photos are very appetizing! Will check in often.
Hi Lisa – Great to see you last night at Bella’s Wine Pairing Dinner – wasn’t it simply the best? I said I’d get you the e-mail of the CSA headquartered in Slippery Rock. It’s http://www.nwpagrowers.com. Check it out, we were members last year and loved it – great local produce every week all summer long. Hope to see you again soon. Ann
Hi Ann,
I’ve been reading your articles in the Galena Signal and was wondering if you would be interested in being a guest writer/blogger on my Franklin Foodie blog. I believe you have an informed and interesting point of view that foodies would be interested in reading. You can submit an article to me in Microsoft Word. Attach it in an email to me and I’ll post it on my blog. Would you be interested? Let me know.
Thanks,
Lisa Manders

Hello!
Just wanted to let you know of another great place to get local food, including organic produce and herbs, home canned jams, mustards and pickles, and grass fed beef, pork, chicken & lamb. My husband and I run Pleasant Valley Farm in Tionesta and are open to the public on Saturdays. I’d love it if we could have our farm added to your list of local links! Please feel free to contact me for more information.
I’d be interested in your products, especially the lamb. Would love to stop in!
I think I went to Rochester High School with you. I was Pamela Taylor then. I’ve never contacted anyone from school before (whom I’m not still in touch with), but I saw your blog and was so impressed. I live in Nashville TN and am a foodie, farmer’s mkt groupie, hippie, mom of college student, theatre and music lover. I look forward to keeping up with your blog.
Thanks Pam! I did go to Rochester High, graduated 1980. There was a 30th reunion in October but I didn’t make it. Great to hear from you. Keep on spreading the local food love!
I heard about Franklin Foodie from Leslie & Sonja at Restoration Herbs. I am looking forward to joining the group when they do their next outing in the Franklin area. Please let me know when you plan your next event…it sounds like a great idea, lots of fun, and good food.
I wish we could get some good cheese supplies to the Franklin area…I go to the Strip to get a lot of the cheeses I like to use and would love to be able to purchase them locally.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
